Roehampton House, London

This Grade I listed, three-storey, Palladian mansion is an unsettling mix of 18th century grandeur and an abandoned institution.

It served as a hospital from 1915, caring for soldiers injured in World War 1, and remained Queen Mary's Hospital until recently. Originally built betweem 1710-12 as a private residence, and later extended in the 20th century; Roehampton House has retained many of its 18th century features, including elements of its use as a public building.
